What is niacinamide
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. In skincare, it is valued for its gentle effect: it supports the protective barrier, helps regulate sebum production, and reduces the appearance of redness.
Which concentration works
Most studies have been conducted with concentrations of 2–5%. Higher concentrations are more likely to cause tingling in sensitive skin without providing a noticeably better result. A product with 4–5% niacinamide is sufficient to start with.
For sensitive skin, start with one application per day, and after two weeks, switch to morning and evening use.
When to expect results
Initial changes in texture and oily shine are usually noticeable after 4 weeks of regular use, while a more even tone and less visible pores appear after 8–12 weeks.
What to combine it with
- Retinol. Niacinamide complements retinoids well and helps the skin tolerate them more easily.
- AHA/BHA acids. Can be used in the same routine; if you have sensitive skin, separate them into morning and evening applications.
- Vitamin C. Modern formulas can be combined; the myth about their incompatibility is outdated.
- SPF. Essential during the day to maintain the results of your skincare.
